The 43North Foundation is excited to announce the launch of its new storytelling platform, Series B, on Jan. 12.
High-growth entrepreneurship and innovation are the keys to unlocking a vibrant economy in Western New York. Series B will play an important role in that movement by providing a loud signal of progress and momentum – creating more engagement and investment locally.
Storytelling around tech economies is a recognized driver of economic activity, a strategy that has been adopted by regions throughout the U.S. Despite amazing progress over the past 15 years, Buffalo does not have a mechanism to tell its story in an intentional, unified way.
Series B is an answer to that challenge.
Series B will borrow from practices by telling constant and authentic stories about the innovative people, companies and initiatives in Buffalo, NY. This omnichannel strategy will include a website, seriesbuffalo.com, an email newsletter and social media (starting with LinkedIn and Instagram).
Its initial stories include features on a recent 43North winner that is moving its manufacturing to
Buffalo; a Q&A with a female angel investor and local executive whose companies quietly moved 100-plus people to a new downtown headquarters; a behind-the-scenes look at why a newly hired community leader boomeranged back to Buffalo; and more.
“Buffalo has made great strides in supporting high-growth entrepreneurship over the past 15 years,” 43North Foundation Board Chair William Maggio said. “Now it’s time to take those positive signals and turn it into a robust engine of growth that creates opportunity for all Western New Yorkers.”
Series B is one of four strategic pillars created by the 43North Foundation, which exists to reinvest the proceeds of the 43North accelerator back into the community.
The pillars are based on best practices in U.S. cities that have improved from within by rallying around entrepreneurship. That research showcased the importance of unified storytelling that mobilizes the local business community and extends a message of opportunity to external stakeholders that range from rising young talent to ex-pats to the national venture community.
In venture capital, a ‘Series B’ is a funding round that indicates a startup is ready for extensive national growth. The Series B media platform will be led by Dan Miner, an experienced journalist who spent a decade chronicling Buffalo’s innovation scene, and include contributions from authors across Buffalo’s startup community. Those contributors come from organizations that include University at Buffalo Startup Ventures, Launch NY, BootSector, TechBuffalo and more.
Series B is among several exciting economic development initiatives spearheaded by the 43North Foundation. The other pillars include:
Radial Ventures: Buffalo’s first and only venture studio will create a handful of high-quality local startups each year. Led by CEO Dan Magnuszewski and a team of experienced software engineers and designers, Radial launched its first company in 2025 and plans to create several more in 2026. Venture studios are an emerging trend in innovation-led economic development because they increase the success rate of early-stage startups and keep them rooted in the region.
TechBuffalo: A talent ID and development engine with a program pipeline that extends from elementary school all the way through college and professional programs. TechBuffalo’s flagship PowerUpTech program, set for significant expansion this year, brings the best-and-brightest college students to Buffalo each year and gives them a curated experience with the city.
Corporate connectivity: Buffalo’s first-ever structured corporate connectivity program is designed to create closer ties between the established business community and Buffalo’s startup scene. Several corporate connectivity programs will be formalized in 2026.
