In 2014, the world’s largest startup business competition debuted in Buffalo, NY. The New York state-funded initiative, called 43North, would invest $5 million in a collection of startups each year, in return for their pledge to build businesses in Buffalo.
43North companies have since created thousands of jobs, attracted hundreds of millions in venture capital and put Buffalo on the national map of startup economies.
The success of that portfolio created the liquidity that led to the creation of the 43North Foundation, a separate 501(c)3 that exists to reinvest Buffalo’s success directly back into its startup community.
The foundation’s board, led by incredibly successful entrepreneurs and investors, developed its four-pillar strategy
1
Radial is a venture studio that partners with founders to turn transformational ideas into high-growth companies.
